Biotechnology Entrepreneur Program™

The fast paced and fast growing Biotechnology, Nanotechnology and Small Scale Technology industries need people with innovative, commercialisation and entrepreneurial skills to turn scientific research into commercial products, processes and services.

The Young Achievement Australia Biotechnology Entrepreneur Program™ (BEP™) provides the platform for young scientists and postgraduates to develop hands on commercialisation skills, business experience and networking opportunities.

The BEP™ provides an authentic learning environment where participants:

• set up a company and develop a biotechnology or nanotechnology themed product or service
• sell shares to the public to raise start up capital
• explore copyright, patent and ownership issues
• conduct market research to gauge feasibility, consumer and industry interest
• market and sell the biotechnology or nanotechnology themed product or service
• take responsibility for all businesses processes.

BEP™ participants are challenged and guided by high calibre mentors with business/commercialisation knowledge and experience from industry and supporting professions.

Unique BEP™ networking seminars and Trade Expositions are organised for participants, mentors, sponsors and Alumni. The BEP™ culminates with an awards night that recognises excellence in innovation and achievement.

The BEP™ promotes the development of:

• Teamwork, communication, leadership and networking skills;
• Logical and analytical reasoning;
• Creative problem solving and intellectual curiosity;
• Imagination, innovation, creativity and intellectual rigour;
• Project management, time management and personal management skills.

Commitment: 2.5hours per week for 24 weeks

Who can enter?
The BEP™ is open to all highly motivated biotechnology and small scale technology / nanotechnology PhD and Master's students, junior scientists, research assistants and early post-docs.
